TMB supports Athens 2004 Olympic Coverage

Cables, connectors and assemblies from TMB are relied upon by many of the world’s top production companies. Proof of this could be seen recently at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

TMB customer Number One, from US and UK, supplied prime and backup power to 45 Olympic sites, enough to power 14,000 homes! This included all competition venues, the International Broadcast Center, the Main Press Center, the Olympic Village – which housed at least 10,000 athletes from more than 200 countries – and seven media villages. The new cable assemblies, supplied by TMB to support the more than 290 km (180 miles) total of electrical cables used, ranged from 400A single-pole, to 125A 3-phase, to 16A jumper cables. All 400A cables featured E2000 single-pole connectors, which were also used on the mains transfer switches and the generator trucks themselves. The entire order required 28 sea containers to consolidate and ship from TMB to Athens.

TMB customer Number Two, from Australia, was the primary sound contractor for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. They specified and purchased a complete new rig of various cable assemblies from TMB, specifically for the events.

TMB customer Number Three, from Germany, supplied over 900 pieces of a 2000 Watt wash fixture for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The integration of these fixtures into the main lighting system utilized a new brand of DMX and Ethernet Cable jointly developed recently by TMB and the fixture manufacturer. All of the cable assemblies used at the Ceremonies were built and quality tested by TMB.

TMB customer Number Four, from US and UK, was the primary lighting contractor for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and TMB customer Number Five, from UK, supplied the Ceremonies’ power. Both are regular and long-standing TMB customers who use TMB cables and assemblies to ensure their quality of service.

Said Colin Waters, TMB’s CEO, “It’s really great to see so many of our customers involved in this historic event. We truly appreciate the opportunity to support their success.”
